Nobody succeeds at Sprinto by staying in their lane.
We are organised around problems, not job titles. Sprinters take ownership beyond their role, solve hard problems, and care deeply about the impact they create. If something can be improved, fixed, or built, we donât wait for permission; we step in.
Being remote means we rely less on proximity and more on trust. We write things down, communicate openly, and move quickly because great teams arenât built by sitting together; theyâre built by pulling in the same direction.
We believe progress beats perfection, feedback is a gift, and doing the right thing matters, even when nobody is watching.
And while we move with urgency, we never move alone.
The mission -
Act as the trusted bridge between customers and independent auditors. You will identify security and compliance gaps, drive practical remediation, strengthen evidence readiness, and guide customers through external audits to timely closure without compromising auditor independence.
Own the audit journey for an assigned portfolio of global customers - from gap assessment and readiness through external audit fieldwork, findings resolution and closure.
Assess security controls, cloud environments, organizational policies and operating practices to identify control, evidence and implementation gaps early.
Turn identified gaps into practical, risk-based remediation plans with Engineering, IT, DevOps and leadership teams, balancing audit urgency with operational reality.
Review evidence for relevance, completeness and consistency before submission, and maintain a clear, audit-ready trail of requests, responses and decisions.
Serve as the coordination point between customers and independent auditors - facilitate requests, clarify how controls operate and help teams respond accurately without compromising auditor independence.
Track open evidence requests, dependencies, exceptions and delivery risks; communicate progress clearly and escalate roadblocks before they threaten timelines.
Guide customers across SOC 2 Type I and Type II examinations and ISO/IEC 27001 audits, with exposure to ISO/IEC 27701, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS where relevant.
Work flexibly across EU and US hours to support international customers and audit firms during time-sensitive stages of an engagement.
Improve reusable playbooks, evidence guidance and audit workflows by turning recurring issues into scalable practices for the Central Audits Team.
2-5 years of relevant experience in information security, IT audit, compliance consulting or a closely related customer-facing advisory role; strong candidates with deeper experience are also welcome.
Strong working knowledge of SOC 2 Type I and Type II and ISO/IEC 27001, including control design, evidence expectations, readiness and external audit workflows.
Direct experience participating in, coordinating or supporting third-party security audits and responding to auditor requests or findings.
Comfort with AWS, GCP or Azure, SaaS architectures, identity and access management, and the technical context needed to assess how controls operate.
A practical problem-solver who can distinguish a documentation gap from a control-design or operating-effectiveness gap and drive the right remediation.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the judgment to align technical teams, executives, customers and external auditors around facts, ownership and next steps.
Strong organization and follow-through across multiple parallel engagements, changing priorities and time-sensitive evidence requests.
Willingness to work with flexibility across EU and US working hours.
Nice to have: CISA, CISM, CISSP, ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer, or a relevant privacy credential.
Nice to have: experience with a compliance automation platform, cybersecurity consultancy or fast-scaling B2B SaaS company supporting international customers.
At Sprinto, talent, curiosity, and ownership matter more than where you come from. We hire people for the problems they can solve, the impact they create, and the way they help others succeedânot their background, identity, or personal circumstances. We believe the best teams are built when people with different perspectives come together around a shared ambition to build something meaningful.
Weâre proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to creating a fair, inclusive, and accessible hiring process for everyone.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. Counsel advises on payments products, regulatory compliance, and AML matters while embedding with product and engineering teams to navigate financial infrastructure challenges.
Headquarters: San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States
In 1905, chief engineer John Stevens inherited one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in history: the Panama Canal.
The challenge wasnât digging a ditch between two oceans. It was figuring out how to move ships safely through a system of locks, gates, reservoirs, and changing conditions without bringing global commerce to a halt.
The solution wasnât to stop movement. It was to create a framework that allowed movement at scale.
Modern financial infrastructure presents a similar challenge. Payment systems, banking products, compliance obligations, and regulatory frameworks all exist for a reason. The goal isnât to eliminate complexity. Itâs to build systems that allow innovation, growth, and customer value within it.
Since 2019, Mercury has been on a mission to reinvent banking⥠for the modern age. We blend elegant design and cutting-edge technology to offer checking and savings accounts, debit cards, payment services, credit products, cash management tools, and sophisticated analytics. Everything we build reflects our belief that financial products should be thoughtfully crafted, fast, transparent, and genuinely enjoyable to use.
As we continue expanding and iterating on our product offerings and as we work to build a nationally chartered bank, weâre looking for a Counsel, Product & Regulatory (Payments & AML) to help us navigate increasingly complex questions at the intersection of product, regulation, and financial infrastructure.
Our Product & Regulatory Legal team operates like the rest of Mercury: with urgency, curiosity, and a bias toward action.
We embed with product teams from early ideation through launch, working alongside engineers, designers, compliance partners, operations teams, and risk stakeholders to get products right. We move fast, we take ownership, and we donât wait to be asked. If something needs figuring out, weâre up to the task.
We are not a team that sits on the sidelines reviewing finished proposals. We work alongside our partners to identify risks, unlock opportunities, and find practical paths forward. We care deeply about good judgment, strong relationships, and building frameworks that scale.
Â
Mercury is a place where lawyers are expected to have a point of view. Not just about what a regulation requires, but about how a product can meet that requirement in a way thatâs thoughtful, scalable, and good for customers.
The people who thrive on this team treat ambiguity as an invitation rather than a reason to pause. They read a regulation and think about what it permits, not just what it prohibits. They understand that legal advice is most valuable when it helps the business make a decision, not when it simply identifies a risk.
Youâll also spend a meaningful amount of your time on work that may not look like traditional legal practice: helping scope cross-functional projects, pressure-testing product designs, navigating operational questions, and building processes alongside compliance and operational partners.
If youâre energized by that kind of work, and if you measure your impact by whether the product, process, or customer experience got betterânot just whether the memo was technically correctâyouâll do well here.
This is an opportunity to join Mercury during a uniquely consequential period of growth.
Youâll help support existing products while contributing to the development of new capabilities as Mercury builds a nationally chartered bank. Youâll work alongside experienced legal, compliance, product, and banking professionals, gain exposure to a wide range of regulatory and product questions, and have meaningful ownership early in your career. Youâll also help shape how Mercury approaches payments and financial crimes legal support for years to come.
Â
The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidateâs experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
While weâve received conditional approval to become a bank, Mercury today is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
